Fun with rubber gloves
Getting back to the dairy...After 4x4ing in the back of the dairy in one of their pits and finger-sucking by calves, we made our way to a little plot of land where they store some of the equipment and various other things, including my brother's dilapidated, pre-married RV. When I say dilapidated, it's an understatement. My dad forewarned the kids with cautionary tales of birds inhabiting the "fun-on-wheels." Just to prove a point, when Opa opened the door, a crusty, dead bird fell out. The kids hopped in eagerly and found a box of rubber gloves. Honestly, one can't plan some of these things out any better. So, everyone put on a pair of gloves and began touching everything with germ-free worry. It's crazy how a thin layer of laytex can be quite the courage boost. While walking around the RV (and I use this term loosely), we could see a nest where indeed, birds were hanging their "Home Sweet Home" sign. While exiting the vehicle, Kenna decided to hold a bird anatomy lab right then and there with the dead, crusty bird that had previously fallen at their feet. Unabashed, urban fun!

No Turkeys
We went bowling the day after Thanksgiving with Blake's parents. Let's just say that I'm not even equipped to clean the bowling alley after hours. Blake's dad bowled in the 200's and I barely broke the century mark. Every year I think to myself that I should bowl more often so that it isn't a once-a-year-desparate-attempt to play, but then my resolve weakens and before I know it, the year has flown by and I'm at the bowling alley wishing I could play better again. Though I smell like their rented out shoes, I did enjoy the family time. The kids had a lane to themselves and the adults another. The scoreboard recorded our ball speed; Avery's .2 mph was slightly faster than a snail. Fun was had by all.

Thanks
We had a great Thanksgiving with Papa and Nana. Nana outdid herself with her culinary skills. We enjoyed a relaxing day. I'm very thankful for my family. I'm also thankful for a warm house, clothes on my back, a loving community and a God who sent his Son.

Footprints in the Sand
Opa sure did show us a great time on the dairy. Here's another picutre of that day. The kids let the calves suck on their hands. They were grossed out and happy all in the same breath.

Rice Hulls
This week will be dedicated to the fun we can have on the dairy with Opa. The kids found the pile of rice hulls to get into. You think sand is hard to get out of nooks and crannies, so are rice hulls.

Grain
The C-Dawg and I were able to un-city-fy ourselves for awhile the other morning. We got to swat at flies, chase chickens, go fetch them thar grain, hike up our pants, wade through "muddy" waters, and sit in a back hoe. All in a day's work here on the farm.

Fashion
I love that these kids don't care what they wear right now. Soon they will be too worried about that. Jacie doesn't care if she has boy's boots on that are at least 4 sizes too small. In fact, Jacie had an outfit on that she had worn the day before. When I told her she couldn't wear it again, she replied, "But why? You do it?" I had to explain to her my frugalness, lack of wanting to do too much laundry and the fact that I wore it at home. I don't know if any of those reasons are excusable but she begrudgingly changed.
This morning Avery went to school with totally mismatched clothes from the hair bow to her leggings. I had to swallow my mommy pride and let her be a kid.

shaded
Hard to believe about a week ago we needed to wear a tank top to keep cool. I'm glad it has cooled down. I love this weather. I always miss the Midwest this time of year.

Family
We had our last monthly dinner with Uncle Nick and Tante Julie. They're in the midst of packing but they let us come over for a quick bite to eat. The kids have really bonded with them over these dinners. Uncle Nick is definitely a favorite for them. He's always willing to play hide-and-seek with them or run around. In the last 6 months Tante Julie has been able to come to these dinners and the kids have loved it. They're moving, fortunately not very far but just far enough where our monthly dinner with them will stop. We're sad for us but very happy for them as they start a new stage in their married lives. All four kids looking at the camera and smiling must say a little something about their love for them because I could never have such a successful picture of them otherwise. We love you!

Pass the Pigs
We had some good ol' fashioned family time yesterday. Blake was in heaven for awhile with his beloved Raiders winning and his whole family cheering them on. Neither of those may happen again. I hope he treasured the unique occurrence.
After getting ready for bed we played a game. We played Pass the Pigs. It was fun to play something we could all do...and enjoy. I lost really bad, but it was still fun. That must be how the Raiders usually console themselves.

halloween
What do Jeff Gordon, Dorothy, Spider Man and the Snow Princess have in common? They all were in attendance for trick-or-treating.
